The Creators
Discovery of unique sound-worlds through collaboration is central in much of her work; several of her projects involve dance, theater, poetry, and performance art. Commissions range from solo and chamber pieces to choral and orchestral works; her work is published by Marimba Productions, Inc. and Apple Mountain Music Press. She was a co-founder of the Musicians' Alliance for Peace (MAP), and co-organized MAP's annual Music for Peace Project, a global network of concerts for peace. During the years 2004-2007, 350 concerts dedicated to peace were performed in 30 countries. As a pianist, Ellen has performed as chamber musician and accompanist in the US, Canada, and Europe. She holds a PhD from Stony Brook University.

Henny holds a BFA from the School of Ceramics and Glass at Bornholm, Denmark and an MFA from Konstfack – the University College of Arts and Craft in Stockholm, Sweden. She has also been a guest student at SHKS – the National University College of Arts and Craft in Norway. Since 2000 she has been active in various fields within the visual arts, such as sculpture, installation, performance art and traditional commission work. She has shown her work at galleries and museums in Sweden, Denmark and Italy and has been an artist in residence and guest artist at the International Ceramic Research Centre in Denmark and the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Although trained a ceramic artist, Henny Linn Kjellberg has mainly been collaborating with artists in the performance field. In order to cross boundaries between the art forms and widen the concept of stage design, she has created ceramic objects that have been used as costume and installation art, as well as set design. In this context she has also been researching ceramics and sound, in collaboration with the American composer Ellen Lindquist and Danish percussionist Birgit Løkke, through the development of a set of porcelain percussion instruments.
Henny har en BFA från Danmarks Designskole Bornholm och en MFA från Konstfack, Stockholm. Hon har även varit gäststudent vid SHKS, Statens Håntverks- og Kunstindustriskole, Oslo. Sedan år 2000 har hon varit verksam inom varierande konstnärliga fält såsom skulptur, installation, performance och traditionella utsmyckningsuppdrag. Hon har visat sina arbeten på gallerier och museum i Sverige, Danmark, Italien och USA och har varit gästkonstnär vid International Ceramic Research Centre i Danmark och vid Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Trots att Henny är utbildad keramiker har hon i en stor del av sitt yrkesliv samarbetat med scenkonstnärer. Med syfte att överbrygga gränser mellan konstformer och vidga scenografikonceptet har hon skapat keramiska objekt / installationer som använts som del av kostym såväl som scenbild. Camille Assaf (France) Camille is a Franco-American designer living in New York. She has designed costumes for the world premieres of operas such as Elmer Gantry (World premiere, Nashville Opera, Montclair State University Peak Performances, and Florentine Opera), Max and Morritz (National Gallery, DC), and the Cambodian-American opera Where Elephants Weep (Phnom Penh, Cambodia). Other highlights include costume design contributions to the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, costumes for Three Children (Hong Kong Fringe Club), Falstaff (New York Opera Society, Théâtre Municipal de Castres, France), and numerous plays and ballets around the United States (New York City Ballet, Park Avenue Armory, Guggenheim museum...) Her collaborations with Pat Diamond include Don Giovanni (Castres, France), A Midsummer Night's Dream and the upcoming Le Donne Curiose (both at Wolftrap Opera). She is a recipient of the 2007 NEA/TCG career development program for designers and an MFA from Yale School of Drama (2004).

Helena Högberg (Sweden) Helena is currently the training artistic director for Gotlands Dance. She is an eminent choreographer who has worked with Romateatern, The Modern Dance Theater, Länsteatern and in many contexts throughout Sweden and abroad. Born 1951 in Linköping she danced Ballet for Tatiana Niordsson in Linköping, Sweden from 7 years of age; trained as a dancer at Balettakademien in Stockholm from 1970-1974 and studied with Matt Mattox in London. She trained as a classical ballet teacher at danshögskola at the University College of Stockholm 1991. As a dancer she has worked with Cramerbaletten, Norrlands operan, SVT, The City Theatre of Stockholm, Royal Dramatic Theatre, The Modern Dance Theater, Dansens Hus, and with various choreographers including Birgitta Egerbladh, Per Jonsson, Ivo Cramer, Mary Skeaping, Ann-Charlotte Lindström, Mats Isaksson, Kjell Nilsson.

Brian M. Hedden (USA) Brian is an independent filmmaker and videographer. He holds a BFA in Film and TV from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He is a founding member of Shelby Company, a New York-based independent theatre company and the company videographer for Companion Star. He is currently working as a freelance videographer in San Diego, California.
Laura began her study of the oboe at age 10 in Lawrence, Kansas before moving to the Eastman School of Music to study under the tutelage of the internationally renowned oboist Richard Killmer. Following her graduation, with Honors, in 2002, Laura was invited to the Hot Springs Music Festival and in the Banff Centre Festival Orchestra as an orchestral and chamber player. In the fall of 2002, Ms. Karney was accepted to be a resident artist at the Banff Centre for the Arts, where she performed solo and chamber music concerts with musicians such as Chris Millard, Simon Wynberg, Mike Murley and Hugh Frasier. Ms. Karney then moved to the New York City area, where as a freelance oboist, she performed with the SEM ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, Cosmopolitan City Orchestra and the Peconic Chamber Orchestra as well as many smaller chamber groups. While in New York, Ms. Karney became a founding member of a multimedia chamber music ensemble, Ardesco (www.ardesco.org). Returning to the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2005-2006, Ms. Karney was invited to play alongside Alain Trudell and Nicholas Daniel as well as premiering six new compositions, both solo and ensemble, five of which were written for her. Since leaving the Banff Centre, Ms. Karney has performed with her guitar and oboe duo in Martindale and Leicester, UK, premiering three new works by English, Mexican and Norwegian composers. In addition she has performed in the Lisbon Symphony Orchestra. She is living in Spain, traveling and performing throughout Europe.

Christa performs with a wide variety of groups in New York City and abroad. She is on faculty at the United Nations International School and is the Director of Wind Chamber Music and clarinet at the Stony Brook School. Dedicated to expanding new music repertoire she has commissioned and premiered solo and chamber pieces by young and established composers from around the world. She is the co-founder and clarinetist with the Nordic new music ensemble: Skogensemble and performs with other New York based groups including The Talea Ensemble, Mantra Percussion, Beaten Paths, Iktus, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Camerata Notturna, Da Capo Opera Orchestra, pop singer Erin Hall, and has performed and premiered pieces at international music festivals including Darmstadt (Germany), Impuls (Austria), soundXis (Canada), Moving Sounds (New York City) and the 12 Nights (Miami). She collaborates with Canadian pianist Gregory Oh and the Toca Loca Ensemble on performances combining music, theater and dance. New this season, she is pleased to be a member of the Ilusis Ensemble a collective performance ensemble project consisting of performers and composers based throughout the United States.

After studying with Hermann Stefansson at Framnäs Music school, Robert entered the Royal college of Music in Stockholm. There he studied with Professor Sölve Kingstedt. After graduation in 1998 he spent a year in the USA studying with Håkan Rosengren. Robert has also taken lessons with Karl Leister, Yehuda Gilad and Mitchell Lurie. Since 2000 Robert has been working in Swedish orchestras but also focusing on working with different chamber ensembles recording several CDs and has premiered a number of works from mostly Swedish composers. As a soloist he has performed with Nordic Chamber Orchestra among others and collaborated with pianists like Bengt-åke Lundin and Mårten Landström. Since 2007 Robert has been a member of the contemporary ensemble Norrbotten NEO. NEO performs around 80 concerts a year and commissions works from Swedish and international composers.
Efter studier på Framnäs Musik Skola för Hermann Stefansson började Robert på Kungliga Musikskolan i Stockholm. Där studerade han för Professor Sölve Kingstedt. Malin Trast was educated at the University College of Music in Piteå and at Mälardalens Högskola in Västerås. She is active as chamber musician, flute teacher and orchestral musician and works regularly with the Västerås Sinfonietta. During the years 2001-2010 she was a member of Vestmanniaensemblen, a chamber ensemble connected to the regional organization Vä stmanlandsmusiken. She has recorded with Björn J:son Lindh and Torbjörn Carlsson, and has played concerts with pianist Staffan Sandström in Paris, performing pieces from Lowell Liebermann, Prokofieff, Schubert and more. Beyond her work with Companion Star she has collaborated not only with other musicians but also visual artists. She is currently a member of Operarop, a small ensemble in Västerås whose goal is to bring opera to children and youth.
Flöjtisten Malin Trast är utbildad vid Musikhögskolan i Piteå och vid Mälardalens Högskola I Västerås. Hon är yrkesverksam som kammarmusiker, flöjtlärare och orkestermusiker och arbetar regelbundet i Västerås Sinfonietta. Mellan 2001-2010 var hon medlem I Vestmanniaensemblen, en kammarmusikensemble knuten till Västmanlandsmusiken. Hon har spelat in skivor med Björn J:son Lindh och Torbjörn Carlsson och konserterat med pianisten Staffan Sandström i Paris, där hon framfört stycken av bland annat Lowell Liebermann, Prokofieff och Schubert. Utöver arbetet med Companion Star har hon samarbetat inte bara med andra muskier utan även med bild- och formkonstnärer. Hon är medlem i Operarop, en liten ensemble i Västerås vars mål är att sprida opera till barn och ungdomar.
Nathan is a NYC-based multi-instrumentalist and composer originally from Charleston, South Carolina. Performing on the horn and accordion, as well as other brass and keyboard instruments, Koci is an enthusiastic advocate of music by living composers, holding administrative roles in NYC's MATA Festival, and Charleston's New Music Collective. Diversity equals comfort for Koci, performing in musical settings from jazz to theater to free improvisation to garage bands and old Cuban folk songs. He has had the humble pleasure of performing with folks such as Alarm Will Sound, Anneke Hansen Dance, Bang on a Can, Compagnie Ormone (dance), Ensemble Modern, the Garage Cuban Band, MacArthur Dance Project, New Music Collective, Signal, TILT Brass, Your Bad Self, and ZAHA. In addition to performing, Koci is an active composer, writing music for theater, dance, silent film and concert performance.
Nathan är en New York-baserad multi-instrumentalist och tonsättare, ursprungligen från Charleston, South Carolina. He has a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business (Summa Cum Laude) from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Arts degree in Jazz Studies (Summa Cum Laude) from Middle Tennessee State University. Oscar works with a wide variety of artists, such as Kelly Clarkson, Johnny Reid and My Morning Jacket.

Aaron Packard (USA) Aaron is a member of Skogensemble. He has served as concertmaster in the orchestras at Roundtop Festival in Texas, Oberlin College Conservatory, and the All-New England Festival. He was onstage violinist (fiddler) in the Oberlin production of Copland's The Tender Land, and has impressed his family for years with his ultra-fast performances of Devil's Dream. He has degrees from Oberlin College and SUNY Stony Brook.

Will also has two albums as a band-leader in post-production; The Dry Spell - an album of duets and trios with the drummer Nasheet Waits and vocalist Justice Dilla-X - and The Dam Levels - a trio with the pianist Jason Lindner and drummer Richie Barshay.

Born and raised in Paris, Nicolas Tulliez holds a Bachelor of Music from the Juilliard School, an Artist Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, and a Master of Music from Yale University. His teachers include Pierre Jamet, Nancy Allen and Judy Loman. After spending three years as solo Harpist of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, he has been with the Basel Sinfonie Orchester for the past five years and was just appointed solo harp of the orchestre philharmonique de radio france. Winner of many competitions and scholarships, he has performed as a soloist in Europe, USA, and Canada. Since 1998 he has played with Trio Nobis. He is very active in the new music scene and has premiered and recorded many new pieces. Nicolas has recorded for EMI, CBC, Skarbo, Maguelone, and recently released his Lutoslawski double concerto with the National Polish Radio Orchestra for Naxos.

Laura Barger has performed both as a soloist and chamber musician at the The Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), the Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music, Bang on a Can Institute at Mass MOCA, The Banff Centre, The Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance, and throughout the New York area. She performs regularly with Yarn/Wire, and has also appeared with Ensemble, Inc., Argento Ensemble, Talujon Percussion, and the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players. Laura holds performance degrees from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (BM) and Stony Brook University (MM & DMA).

Michael McCurdy performs nationally and internationally with Hi Red Center, Mantra Percussion, and Skogensemble, and at festivals including the Society of Composers, SEAMUS, the Electronic Music Midwest Festival, the Sparks Festival of Electronic Music, the Bang on a Can Marathon and the Festival of New American Music. In New York, Michael collaborates with many musicians, including Ricardo Gallo, Peter Evans, Tom Blancarte, Dither, Erin Hall, and Vintage Fire.
Michael is a champion of new music – commissioning, premiering and recording works by established composers such as Michael Gordon, Gavin Bryars, Richard Felciano, Michael Fiday, Annie Gosfield, Karen Tanaka, and Ushio Torikai. Michael has also developed relationships with many young composers to commission and perform new works. Most of these collaborations have blended music with dance, and music with text and theatre - many of these efforts have combined music with electronics or interactive computer.
Michael completed a doctorate in percussion performance at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2006. His teachers over his career have included Nick Petrella, Steve Schick, Dan Kennedy, Raymond DesRoches, and Eduardo Leandro. Michael is endorsed by Sabian cymbals.

Kathleen Flynn has performed a repertoire spanning five centuries and in locales ranging from Japan to Aldeburgh, England. A Sullivan Foundation award winner, Ms. Flynn has sung under the baton of Seiji Ozawa, Julius Rudel, Robert Spano, Christopher Hogwood, Mario Bernardi and Jane Glover. She has performed with Chicago Opera Theater, at the National Arts Center of Ottawa with the Winnipeg Ballet, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Juilliard Theater and The Kennedy Center. She is an accomplished recitalist singing at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and Lincoln Center Theater, the Tanglewood Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. Ms. Flynn is a graduate of the University of Toronto, The Juilliard School and received her doctorate at Stony Brook University. Recent engagements included Elvira in Don Giovanni in Castres, France, La Messagiera in Orfeo with Stony Brook Opera for the four hundredth anniversary of the work, Winterreise in Malaga and Ribadeo, Spain, a recording of Barber's A Hand of Bridge with the Moscow Radio Orchestra and her Carnegie Hall debut in Handel's Messiah.
